Making simple adjustments to the bedroom can have a dramatic impact on your life.

The bedroom is considered one of the most important rooms in feng shui. This is a room where we spend one third of our life and where our body seeks relaxation, intimacy, privacy and refuge. If this room does not exude harmony, the imbalance will harm your relationship, your home life, and your physical well-being. It behooves us then to look at this space with a discerning eye and implement proper feng shui modalities so we can effectively replenish our energy from the labors of the day.

Direction

One of the most powerful energetic choices you can make is to choose a personal complimentary direction to locate your bedroom. This direction can be determined by a simple compass formula (Ming Gua Method) based on the year you were year born. By doing this you are aligning your own personal qi with qi naturally emitted from the sun.

Symbolism

The symbolism in this room should embrace romance, relaxation and vitality. Romantic artwork, sculptures, and symbols placed in the Southwest portent of the room will effectively strengthen the relationship, while placing images of vitality and strength in the eastern portent will support health. The power behind symbols is based on the laws of attraction. What the mind focuses on the body moves towards.

Commanding Position

The best placement for the bed is on a solid wall diagonally facing the doorway entrance. In other words, not directly in the path of flowing qi. This alignment places the body in a command position keeping the body in a relaxed state. When the body is in a compromised position, physiologically the "fight or flight" mechanism engages releasing adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol into the blood stream. This triggers the body to undergo a series of dramatic changes including increase heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, dilation of pupils, etc. Repeatedly exposing the body to this perceived threat is very stressful on the immune system.

Using Color & Scent in Bedroom Decor`

Color has a powerful impact on the human aura and chakra system while scent can be a powerful mood elevator. Subdued (yin) and romantic hues are appropriate color choices for a bedroom. Skin tone colors will nurture the body while mauve, green, burgundy and rose colors will aid in romance. The key is to choose a color that is subtle to relax the body, rather than colors that will excite it. Try to avoid yellow, lavender, blue or brown in this room, as these colors are too thought provoking, chaste, cool, and structured respectively. Imbuing this space with romantic and calming essential oils like Pink Grapefruit, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine or Lavender will freshen the qi, while invoking feelings of romance and serenity.

Window Treatment & Design Materials

Choose natural fabrics with a romantic flare that will shield light pollution from street lamps. It is essential this room is totally dark when sleeping for the pineal gland to function properly. Too much light source can interfere with restful sleep and cause a drop in serotonin levels directly impacting the hormonal system. Incorporate as many natural design features (flooring, linens, furniture, wall covering, etc.) in this space to minimize toxic emissions.

Remove All Electronics

Avoid TVs, clock radios, computers or any type of equipment that emits an electromagnetic frequency (EMF). These appliances work off an alternating current (A/C), while alpha brain waves vibrate on a direct current (D/C). This incompatibility causes friction in the human cell resulting in fatigue, headaches and other health ailments.

Remove Clutter & Other Inappropriate Objects

Clutter stagnates qi and will impact a specific part of your life and body system. Anything you dislike, no longer have use for, in disrepair, or simply has no business being in the bedroom needs to be removed. Storing items beneath the bed compromises sleep patterns by halting the flow of qi. So find another place for your stuff!

Making simple adjustments to the bedroom can have a dramatic impact on the quality of your life. Restful sleep equates to successful living. So roll up your sleeves and begin assessing the most important room in your home: the bedroom!
